Housesitting

I stayed at my parents house to take care of their animals this past weekend. What a bunch of sweeties they have!
I snagged a couple shots that I thought I'd share here :-)

Poor Pathetic Maddie...isn't she sad? Sitting at the window and waiting, waiting, waiting for my parents to return.
Don't let her fool you, she didn't stay here the entire time ;-)
Waiting....

And one of sweet Clifford. I swear, he's the sweetest cat I've ever met

Baby Birds

On Friday, the last day of Alex's camp, we roamed around the St. Augustine Alligator farm a bit.
The rookery is starting to clear out a bit, but there are still quite a few nests out there. I was able to snag a few photos of some baby birds :-)

Guess what!!

We got a new car!!
Traded in our 2002 Mercury Sable for a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe.
I'm LOVING it!!!
The old and the new

My Flock

It seems that I've been very busy, and a bit absent from my blog lately. I apologize to you all. Summertime is here, and we've been quite busy!!
I also realized that I have little feathered members of my family that I haven't introduced here yet!
So, without futher ado, here is "My Flock"

You all know Yoda, and his recent marriage to his wife Mellow Yellow. I tried to get some new photos of them, but they are more into each other than into me, and Yoda ended up behind the washing machine...so here's my most recent favorite of the newlyweds. We're still waiting for them to make use of that nestbox. Waiting and waiting for eggies :-)
The Happy Couple

And then there's Leia. She's my litte buddy bird, and the most tame. So the easiest to photograph :-)
Hi!

She looks good on purple

It's Summertime!!

Another reason for my absence. Leia thinks she needs to be on my hand, getting "scritches" at all times. Makes computer work more difficult. She's such a spoiled little princess.

Then, there's Phoenix. He is my gorgeous boy. He's trying to talk, but only makes interesting robot-like sounds right now. He was recently very sick. Had to spend 2 nights at the hospital and everything. He's all better now, and sweeter than ever!!
My Phoenix

Phoenix Update

Phoenix has a girlfriend now. She's too old for him still, so they're in a side by side cage. They love eachother already, and should be able to be together in a few months :-)
This is his girlfriend Ally, isn't she glamerous?
Glamorous Ally

And finally, the babies....this is Chewy (green) and Kashy (blue). Chewy is a boy, and Kashy is a girl. They're still very young. But very sweet and such clowns!
Chewbacca & Kashy

Chewy & Kashy

This is a horrible pic, but I just have to show you how silly these two are! Kashy is a bit of a lazy but bossy gal. So she sits in the food bowl and makes Chewy just eat what he can find around her! LOL
Silly bird!

So, that's my flock. Did you count? Yes, it's seven parrotlets. Such sweeties too!
I hope to have eggies and babies any time. But it may take years. I'm trying to be patient :-)

I lost my sweet bun bun this morning.
Toffee
March 2007-June 2009
RIP Toffee
~When I looked out the window to your cage this morning...I knew. My heart sank to my stomach, and my head started hurting. My sweet big bun bun....you were gone.
At 2 1/2 years old, you certainly gave us joy...raised in my classroom, you were always so gentle. Not once did you bite, or scratch, or act negitively in any way. Not once did you relieve yourself anywhere but your designated place...no matter how long you played with us in the house.
Sweet girl, I'll never know what happened to you...did you have an infection I could not see? were you sick? You acted perfectly fine yesterday evening when I visited with you....my heart hurts as I wonder if the bobcat scare caused a heart attack...you were a big girl after all...face it honey, 17 pounds is very big for a widdle wabbit.
I buried you in the woods next door. Where the wild rabbits are. You're next to the palm tree, in a spot of sun through the canopy.
I'll see you at the rainbow bridge sweet girl.
Hugs and bunny nose bumps.

Hero

Last night, around 10:30, I let the dog out before we went to bed. I pushed the door part way closed, and went into the kitchen to get the coffee pot ready.
Immediately, she started barking.
Now, she is NOT a barker. And it was her intruder bark. Something, or someone, was in her backyard.
We live in the woods....oh no! Not another skunk!!!
I went racing for the door, calling her to get in the house, hoping I wasn't too late to avoid the spray.
It wasn't a skunk....to my left, a few dozen feet away, standing on top of the rabbit hutch, was a full size bobcat!!
As soon as Charlie knew I saw it, she beat feet for the door, and so did I.
The bobcat took off over the fence and into the woods and darkness.
The rabbits are fine. The bobcat didn't get in the hutch, and Charlie got an extra treat and some pets for her job well done.
Nobody messes with her family!!!

Mental note, dog must be supervised when let out at night for potty.
We've been here 2 1/2 years....this was a first!!

Another Woodpecker update

"She" is doing well....now, we're not so sure she's a pileated woodpecker...looking for photos of their fledglings to try and identify her.
Regardless, she's approx 22 days old and doing FABULOUS! Eating well, hopping around her little hospital cage, and hanging on to my friend's shirt...like my friend is a tree :-)
Yesterday, she got spooked and flew a few feet across the room...oh, and my friend said that her beak is getting quite sharp! I bet!!
Another week or so, and she'll be on her own!!
